So this states pretty much the obvious! What do you allow in your house? And who? We have to be so guarded today of what we allow in. Through television we let so much perversion, violence and hatred into our hearts and most of the time its subtle but it is becoming more and more blatant. So if thats one of the whats then what about the who?
I read a very interesting scripture the other day in 1 Corinthians 5:9-11:-
"I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. Yet i certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now i have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral...not even to eat with such a person."
I know i'm not gifted in theology but when i read it it just made me think who we are keeping company with. Most of our existence is socialising with "saved, happy clappy people" and we have this mentality that we're holier than thou and shame, lets try to reach the lost, looked-down-upon person. So we come across as judgemental and critical. But actually we are supposed to keep company with the immoral people, invite them into our homes, show them a Godly home and love them where they are at - with no pretense and judgement. Those are who we should bring into our home. I'm not saying don't speak to them about their actions or teach them what the Bible says about sin but really its to show they are separated from God. There is no difference between my wretchedness and theirs, save the Blood of Jesus Christ and the fact that I am hidden in Christ. I just love how Oswald Chambers put it: "The disposition of sin is not immorality and wrong-doing, but the disposition of self-realisation - i am my own god. This disposition may work out in decorous morality or in indecorous immorality, but it has the one basis, my claim to my right to myself. When our Lord faced men with all the forces of evil in them, and men who were clean living and moral and upright, He did not pay any attention to the moral degradation of the one or to the moral attainment of the other; He looked at something we do not see, the disposition."
So that is just my thought. The front door is for people to come in, not for us to lead a fat-cat lifestyle of thinking only of ourselves, and bless us four and no more. I want my children to see the Lord work powerfully in people's lives and the reality is that they wont necessarily see that happen at church but in the home and from the home.
